Jackson Pollock (January 28, 1912 – August 11, 1956) was born January 28, 1912 in Cody, Wyoming. He was an influential painter and was largely involved in the abstract expressionist movement. His most famous paintings were created during the 'drip period' from 1947 to 1950. He eventually gave up on titling pieces and resorted to numbers, saying that more could be gained from viewing the painting if the viewer had no preconceived notions about what it was supposed to be. He died August 11, 1956 at age forty-four.
